The Dream Is Now

It hit me with a powerful force as I was making supper last night.
This is the dream.
I'm living it.
Yes, the quick thaw the hamburger in the microwave because I forgot to plan supper in the morning like they always tell you to do.
Or what about those people who plan their meals for a month, and cook and freeze them all. I have always been in awe of those people.
I know I will likely never BE one of those people.

Yes, the backaches and bills, the weeds and dirty windows.
The poppies bursting open with such gusto that I feel like I should begin a chant of sorts...oh yes the poppies are back...the sweet, rosy faces fill me with joy,oh yes the poppies are back...(end chant)

I sit on the front step  with a coffee and a book while I wait for my kids to come home from school. The sun shines warmly on me.
The bus stops, my entourage crosses the road while traffic builds on either side. I wave to them, the bus driver or anyone else who cares to notice. It  feels good to greet my kids at the end of their school day.

Although the village has it's merit in raising my child,
I am so glad it isn't nearly as crucial as my role.
I am not always as aware of this as I want to be.

But this is not just an idyllic  dream. It is reality.
The grit ,the grind, it is glorious.
I'm so thankful I have gotten in on the ride.

The dream is now...this is the reality.
So be in it; and don't dream it away.

I'll do my dreaming with my eyes wide open,
and do my looking back with my eyes closed.

last evening at supper my daughter who is taking a philosophy class got us talking about dreams and how they discussed whether we are actually 'with it' when we dream, or if we have no control. Not sure what the verdict was but it made interesting table talk:)

Illustrious Longings...

I'm dreaming about this....give me all or nothing,
I say as I my soul languishes for the deep, meaningful notes
of a summer day...

I am craving the sun's warmth while I feel the earth come to life between my hopeful touch.

to pause in the middle of life's stream for awhile...

          and memorise these faces...

To read by days waning light...

and soak in the wonder of a sunset...

To stand mesmerised as plethora of colour sings in unison to
an audience of one...

Me alone at this magnificent garden concert.

This bleak canvas is waiting for the strokes of summer to enliven it....I wait in eager anticipation...

much of March in southern Ontario is rather bland,it isn't winter anymore but doesn't feel like spring either...neither here nor there!March by March:)
so I tapped into the summer archives and had myself a little reprieve...

May your mid March day make a memory
                       you treasure.

A Winter Memoir

The dusk had gathered like a curtain closing in the day.
I realised my youngest was still outdoors somewhere in the clear, crisp edge of evening.
Thinking I should check on her I went to the door and called her name and asked  " Are you still out here somewhere?"
"Who me?" her voice echoing off the barn came back. "Yes,under the mulberry tree."
I closed the door and smiled. I couldn't call her in just yet, homework and piano practice would wait.

After all childhood is brief, and dreams must be dreamed when you're young, before they are buried by life, and it's constant demands,of purpose and duty and good, honest work.
I drift back to the innocent days of childhood.Oh how winter evenings would lure me out to experience their mesmerizing power. I remember the feeling of exhilaration as I coasted down the long hill in our field, and finally rolling off at the bottom I'd stare up at the star filled  heavens and wonder about life and meaning but not really caring too much... because my world felt  safe and happy here on this tiny piece of  earth.

There was a song waiting to be discovered deep inside of me....but for the moment it wasn't important because here on a snow covered hill staring up at a thousand twinkling stars, my life was significant and promising, and that was really all that mattered.
There was a delicious supper waiting for me inside, and siblings and parents who cared about me.

Life was simple and unblemished as it should be.

And things looked ever so clear ...
on a dark and frosty, starlit winter's night.
